Is the operation of SF modules with transformerless inverters approved and do the poles have to be earthed?

In contrast to cadmium telluride or thin-layer silicon modules our CIS modules do not require an earthing of its negative or positive poles. The TCO layer of our CIS modules is being protected by the EVA foil due to its substrate configuration. The TCO layer is not being attacked by Na+ ions of the glass and therefore does not degrade. For this reason a transformerless inverter can be used without any restrictions.

 

 

Can the modules be used in corrosive atmospheres (e. g. atmosphere with high levels of ammonia caused by keeping poultry, with high levels of salt or humidity)?

Yes, The Solar Frontier modules have passed the following certification tests, amongst others:

- Certification test of ammonia resistance [certificate from TÜV Rheinland on June 28th, 2013: 2PfG 1917/05.11
"Ammonia corrosion testing of photovoltaic (PV) Modules”]

- TÜV certification test of salt mist resistance [certificate from TÜV Rheinland on June 28th: IEC61701:2012 "Salt mist corrosion testing of photovoltaic (PV) modules“].

In addition, Solar Frontier PowerModules can be installed in environments with a relative humidity of between 45% and 95%.

Can the modules be damaged by hail?

In the process of the product certification according to IEC 61646, the modules were hit with ice balls at a speed of 80 km/h and withstood this test undamaged. So in conclusion, the modules are not endangered when exposed to hail. You can find the corresponding certificate on our homepage under the Certificates menu point.

Do the modules have to be cleaned on a regular basis?

In general, the self-cleaning function of the modules decreases with a lower inclination angle. At locations which feature a high potential for pollution it can therefore be necessary to clean the modules on a regular basis in order to ensure permanently high yields. This applies particularly for installations with a low inclination angle. For more information about cleaning guidelines, please refer to our installation manual, which is available in the download area.

How can the most advantage be made of the Light Soaking Effect when specifying the inverter?

The tolerance ranges of the open circuit voltage ("Voc") and the short-circuit current ("Isc") are not affected by the Light Soaking Effect. Consequently, the information in the datasheet is quite sufficient for specifying the maximum system voltage and the maximum current. 

Is it possible to connect strings in parallel without a fuse or reflux diodes?

As long as the solar system is properly installed by a professional according to the manufacturer's instructions it is possible to connect the strings of the PowerSet without any fuse or reflux diode. 

Please note that certain local regulations might explicitly require the use of a fuse to protect cables or modules. Please respect these regulations in all cases.

Can I uncouple or replace individual parts of the PowerSets?

The individual components of our Solar Frontier PowerSets have been adjusted to work optimally with each other. Therefore, they should not be changed. If components are replaced, we can no longer offer any guarantee for the PowerSet purchased.

How do Solar Frontier PowerModules react in the event of a fire?

The Solar Frontier PowerModules were developed with full consideration for health and environmental protection. The organization for New Energies and Industrial Development (NEDO) in Japan, the Centre for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research (ZSW) in Germany and the Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) in the USA have reported that in the event of a fire only very small quantities of toxic gases are released into the atmosphere. Therefore, Solar Frontier modules do not represent an increased health risk in the event of fire.

Our modules have also been classified in Class E according to EN-ISO 11925-2 by a renowned test institution.

Claims

My PV system shows a rather low yield. What could be the reasons for this?

- AC power failures

You can check via the monitoring or the data logger if the inverter has registered power failures. Should there be power failures rather frequently, please get in touch with your network operator in order to check if mains errors have occurred and if stabilising measures need to be introduced. 

- Highly contaminated modules

Please get the modules cleaned as indicated in our installation manual.

- Defective DC cable

Please contact your installation company to get the DC cable checked and replaced if necessary.

- Defective diode

There is no voltage measurable at the module. It is likely that the diode within the connection box is broken. This box cannot be exchanged and the module needs to be replaced.

- Glass breakage

Please get the respective module replaced by your installation company.

The glass layer of one of my modules is broken. What could be the reason for this and where do I get a replacement?

- Defect from external impact (stone chips)

A glass breakage caused by the impact of an external force leads to an exclusion of the guarantee. Please replace the module.

- Incorrect installation 

Improper installation can cause stresses within the module, which could lead to glass breakage. This leads to an exclusion of the guarantee. Please replace the module.

- Glass breakage due to an unknown cause

In case of you are unsure about the reason for the defect, please send us photos of the defective module as well as the serial number and information about the mounting system used. We will gladly check your details and promptly give you feedback about the damage.

My inverter is showing an insulation fault. What could be the reason for this?

The reason for an insulation defect is often a defect in the cabling. These can be caused for example by a marten bite or a defect plug connection in the system. Please check the cabling and repair them if necessary. Unfortunately, defective module cables or plugs cannot be exchanged and the module needs to be replaced. 

Please note that work on electrical devices should exclusively be carried out by authorised professionals.

My inverter is showing an error code on the display. Where can I check this?

In the manual of the inverter you can find an overview of all error codes including recommended actions. You can find this in our download section.

There is a cable which has been pulled out of a module. Can this be reconnected and the module used further?

A cable which has been pulled out cannot be reconnected and the module needs to be replaced. Any other action leads to an invalidation of the liability and the guarantee.

Can I rely on the availability of modules in the future?

Solar Frontier keeps a sufficient stock of replacement modules in its warehouse. As well as that, further modules are still being produced so that the availability is also guaranteed in the future.

How must the Solar Frontier PowerModules be disposed of at the end of their service life or if they are defective? And what costs will I incur from this?

Please treat the modules in accordance with the applicable legal requirements and have them recycled appropriately. The modules may not be disposed of in domestic waste.

What guarantees do I have for my modules and where can I find them?

The current product and performance guarantees for Solar Frontier PowerModules are normally included automatically in the PV system documentation. This is also available in the download area on our homepage.

What guarantees do I get for my PowerSet and where can I find them?

The standard guarantee of the PowerSets is 5 years for the entire system. However, you can easily prolong this guarantee to 10 years by registering the PowerSet online on www.solar-frontier.eu. The detailed guarantee conditions can be accessed in our download area.

What guarantees do I get for my PowerSet Industrial and where can I find them?

The current product and performance guarantees of Solar Frontier PowerSet Industrial are available for review in the Download area on our homepage.

Is damage on the modules, caused by breakage, storm damage, theft, marten bite or yield loss covered by the guarantee offered by Solar Frontier?

Damages caused by external factors cannot be covered by our guarantee. Please consult your insurance company to check what damages are covered by your policy.

Monitoring

Do I have to register my replacement inverter in the Monitoring portal?

A registration of your exchange inverter is not required. Please just send an email to "monitoring@solar-frontier.eu" including the serial numbers of your old and new device and we will take care of the necessary adjustments.

My Monitoring Portal is not showing any data. What could be the reason for this?

Apparently, there is a problem with the data dispatch and the internet connection. As a first step, please make sure that the inverter is connected correctly to your internet router as described in our installation manual. 

In case the connection does not show any errors, one of the following malfunctions could be present:

- The inverter is not sending any data

Please turn the DC switch to "off" and turn off the AC switch of the device. Now leave the device powerless for at least five minutes. Afterwards, please turn on both the AC and the DC power again. The sequence is irrelevant here. The device should now reconnect to the server and establish a data connection. 

- No data connection or faulty data connection

Please make sure that the inverter is having a stable network connection. Wireless connections might be delicate.

- After a replacement of an inverter

Please let us have the name of the installation along with the serial numbers of your old and new device. Your Monitoring portal is instantly updated with these data and you can use it with all functions again. 

- Defect in the inverter

Please contact our Support and keep your serial numbers to hand.

Is the data still available after the replacement of an inverter or will only new yields be shown?

The system yield data will still be available after the replacement of an inverter.

Where can I adjust my settings?

To access the settings menu, please click on the gear wheel symbol on your dashboard.

Can I download the yield data?

There is a download area on the dashboard where the yield data of your installation can be exported in Excel format.
