This 7.2 kWp free-field solar installation of 48 Solar Frontier CI S thin-film modules is located in Cyprus in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, in the town of Lakatamia, a suburb of the capital, Nicosia, and was connected to the grid in April 2013. It was installed in a private garden and is expected to produce more than 12,650 kWh of electricity annually, saving more than 7,100 kg of CO2 emissions. The modules were mounted in optimal south facing orientation with an initial tilt angle of 30°. The special mounting system allows manual adjustment of the tilt angle in order to increase energy yields in the course of changing seasons.

The special challenge of this installation lies in the climatic conditions of Cyprus. The Mediterranean region has hot summer days and cool, rainy winters. Solar Frontier‘s CI S thin-film modules have advantages in hot climate regions as they produce high yields due to their high temperature stability resulting in high performance even at module temperatures exceeding 70 °C during summer months. The quality standard of these made-in-Japan modules assures a high standard of performance under the annual stresses from hot to cold, dry to wet. The aesthetic and environmental friendliness of the modules were also convincing aspects for the garden owner, since the power plant is located in his private garden.
