FAQ
We hope that you’ll find everything you need in our FAQ concerning our modules and their handling and operation.
SOLAR FRONTIER MODULES
I operate an SF PV system and have experienced a module failure outside of the warranty conditions, e.g., due to storm damage or vandalism. Is it possible to get replacement modules for this existing system?
Solar Frontier Europe discontinued sales of SF modules in Europe in 2017.
SF module production was also discontinued in summer 2022.
SF modules are therefore only available in very limited quantities and exclusively for emergency/warranty cases. Therefore, such a request must be justified and decided on an individual basis.
Do Solar Frontier modules contain toxic or hazardous materials?
No.
SF modules are RoHS certified, which means they do not contain any hazardous or toxic substances.
Cert-Link

INVERTER / TRANSFORMER
SF modules are thin-film modules, and for these, in general the following applies: Inverters with galvanic isolation / transformers must be used, or additional grounding is necessary. Is this also the case for SF modules?
Due to Solar Frontiers specific manufacturing process, additional grounding of SF modules is NOT required, i.e. when replacing the inverter there is no restriction to transformer inverters only.
The Solar Frontier inverter is flashing / emitting warning signals / failing completely. What to do?
It is possible to have the device checked by Kontron (see above) to determine:
Is the device still under warranty? Is the fault repairable?
Is the device replaceable, if applicable?
On this page:
https://www.kontron-solar.com/Online-form-for-filing-a-customer-complaint
you can check for typical, fixable faults. If this is unsuccessful, you can download a service/exchange form that describes the next steps in the process (e.g., sending in the device).
The Solar Frontier inverter is displaying error messages or failing intermittently, but it continues to operate. What to do?
It might be possible to restore smooth operation by adjusting some limit values.
This requires changes towithin the inverter’s service area.
Access to the service area is only possible via passwords, which are generated specifically for each inverter.
Kontron is the SFE partner for questions about inverters.
Therefore, go to this page:
https://www.kontron-solar.com/Steca-Grid-grid-inverter-Request-password.
There, enter the inverter type and, most important, its serial number. A PDF document containing the passwords will then be sent via email.
DISPOSAL
I own and operate a PV installation with Solar Frontier modules. I would like to replace them with other modules (e.g., for repowering the system) and am wondering how the old modules are disposed of.
Solar Frontier Europe GmbH is a member of the PV-CYCLE association, which is the customer´s first point of contact for module disposal and recycling.
You can find further general information about the association and photovoltaic module recycling at https://pvcycle.de/ .
For the collection of larger quantities of photovoltaic modules, please send an email to: operations@pvcycle.org .
Small quantities of modules (approximately 20 modules) can also be dropped off at local recycling centers.
SFE is also listed in the WEEE register:
WEEE Reg. No. DE 79163112
(WEEE = waste of electrical and electronic equipment)
WARRANTY
I purchased a Solar Frontier PowerSet and had it installed by a professional installation company. The system's performance seems to be declining. How can I make a claim under my 10-year system warranty?
The prerequisite for a system warranty is, that the PowerSet must have been registered with Solar Frontier.
The appropriate proof must be provided.
In this case: Please send an informal email detailing the exact reason for the warranty claim to: info@solar-frontier.eu
This will initiate the claim process.
I operate an SF PV system and have experienced a module failure outside of the warranty conditions, e.g., due to storm damage or vandalism. Is it possible to get replacement modules for this existing system?
SFE is committed to keeping existing customers’ PV installations operational.
We are therefore willing to help within the limits of our remaining inventory.
We require the technical data for the PV system itself, including the module type, the number of modules to be replaced, and their serial numbers.
This will allow us to determine whether a module of the same type or a compatible module is available.
If a quote is available, it will be sent to the installer, who will be entrusted with the on-site execution of the order, at fixed terms. This also includes the system’s warranty periods also to be applied to the new modules.
OTHER
I discovered the Solar Frontier website and am convinced that Solar Frontier could benefit from my services and/or products to better advance its business. Who should I contact?
In the vast majority of cases, this is NOT necessary.
SFE is an operator of renewable energy plants with a fixed and stable customer base. This means:
